VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, (September 21, 2015) – Leaves aren’t the only things falling this time of the year. As we approach the official start of autumn Hampton Roads gas prices have dropped below $2 dollars. The seven cities haven’t experienced gas prices this low in September since 2004 when gas was $1.85 on September 30th. In fact, the gas prices have continued to decline for 67 consecutive days, which is good news for consumers. If the trend continues Virginia should see prices dip below the two dollar mark in the next day or two, with the present price for a gallon of gas being just shy at $2.03.

“Continued lower gas prices are good news for the millions of Americans that depend on their car for work and play for each day,” said Georjeane Blumling, Vice President of Public Relations for AAA Tidewater Virginia. “Lower gasoline prices translate into billions of dollars in tangible household savings given that the vast majority of Americans rely so heavily on their automobile.”

The global oil market remains volatile and the overall sentiment continues to swing between bulls and bears in response to recent reports. The International Energy Agency is predicting that production from non-OPEC countries will fall by its largest increment in 24 years, and the organization attributes this decrease to the success of OPEC’s strategy to protect its market share by sustaining production despite the relatively low price of crude oil. Also according to IEA, global oil demand is expected to increase in 2016. The combination of lower production and higher demand is reportedly contributing to the sentiment that a bullish market could be on the longer-term horizon.
