VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (June 30, 2017) – This Independence Day just got more exciting for those in Virginia. Gas prices have continued to drop across the national and Virginia is in the top ten states to have the lowest gas prices. Currently, the price for gas is $2.01, which is four cents less than last week, 15 cents less than last month and nine cents less than last year. Virginia could be facing lowest gas prices for the Fourth of July since 2004.
“Consumers can find gas for less than $2.00 in many parts of Virginia and here in Hampton Roads where prices are currently at $1.97. That is a nice surprise to the one million Virginians driving to their Independence Day Weekend destination,” said Georjeane Blumling, spokesperson for AAA Tidewater Virginia. “Demand has been too slow to eat away at the surplus of crude and gasoline inventories, and motorists are benefitting.”
Thirty-three (33) states are selling gas for $2.00 or less. South Carolina has the cheapest gas prices by far with 86% of stations at or below the $2.00 mark, while the state’s gas price average is $1.91. States with more than half of stations at or below $2.00 include:
